  • Capri and Anacapri

    Capri and Anacapri

No holiday in Sorrento would be complete without a trip to the Island of Capri, which can be reached by sailing across the bay of Naples to start of an unforgettable day. Capri is about 4 miles long and 2 miles wide and much has been told, sung and written about it. First you'll visit the fabulous villa of Dr. Alex Munthe, a Swedish doctor whose best seller book, Story of San Michele , deals with the days spent by him in Capri. His villa was built with the ruins of the Roman time and it is possible to admire the wonderful view from the terrace of its enchanting shady garden. The visit to the villa is upon your choice and the entrance fee is to be paid directly to the guide. Going down to the town of Capri, you’ll find elegant shops , hotels and restaurants along its winding lanes. The main square, Piazza Umberto I, has a pretty white church and several open-air cafes where you can sit and watch people walking around. From the square many lanes and porches in medieval style start, which are full of shops selling the handmade products of the island, clothes, gold and coral jewels, shoes and ceramics. Worthy of being admired are also the colourful Augustus’ Gardens overlooking the famous Faraglioni Rocks and Marina Piccola where Grace Field once lived. There will be some free time for you to go round and admire the elegant boutiques along the cobbled streets or simply to relax on the beach. There is so much to see and do on this tiny island you will be sorry to leave.

  • Costiera amalfitana

    Costiera amalfitana

The Amalfi drive, said to be the most spectacular road in Europe, winds on top of the cliff and offers breathtaking panoramic views at every bend. Each spot is a fantastic small world of its own which dazzles the imagination and inspires unforgettable impressions. We’ll make a stop in Positano which is another splendid jewel of this coastline, boasting picturesque pink and white villas perched spectacularly on the steep hill side. Then we’ll go on to Amalfi, which gives its name to the whole coast it lies on. Once a thriving Marine Republic, powerful and prosperous and now a longed-for holydays resort. The unmistakeable cluster of white tightly packed houses rising up the hill side is dominated by the beautiful Cathedral which stands superbly on top of a long flight of steps going up from the main square. Kept in the magnificent Cathedral there are the remains of the Patron Saint of Amalfi and also of Scotland - Saint Andrew. From Amalfi we’ll visit Ravello which nestles eleven hundred feet above sea level on the hill side. We’ll visit Villa Rufolo which gave the musician Richard Wagner the inspiration to create one of his most famous operas, the Parsifal.

  • Pompei and Ercolano

    Pompeii and Ercolano

Full day guided excursion by coach, to the famous archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Pompeii holds an intense fascination for visitors today. Following the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D., Pompeii lay buried and forgotten for hundreds of years. The town is high on the list of the Wonders of the World and the excavations begun in the 18th century are still being carried out today. Our guide will take you slowly through some of the ancient streets of Pompeii where you can see Baths, Forums and Villas built by the prosperous Romans in the year 80 B.C. Marvel at the fabulously preserved Frescos which adorned the walls and floors of the villas. When the catastrophe of 79 A.D. occurred, Herculaneum was submerged under a torrent of mud and lava that hardened into a soft tufa (a kind of course rock) that preserved many of the wooden parts of houses and household objects which can be seen today. A large part of the town is still buried, and certainly many art treasures are still to be found. Return to Sorrento in the afternoon.

  • Pompei and Vesuvio

    Pompeii and Vesuvio

Pompeii holds an intense charm for visitors today. Following the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D., Pompeii lay buried and forgotten for hundreds of years. The town is high on the list of the Wonders of the World and the excavations begun in the 18th century are still being carried out today. Our guide will take you slowly through some of the ancient streets of Pompeii where you can see Baths, Forums and Villas. Even if your interests do not lie in history, this is an archeological site that cannot fail impress you. Mount Vesuvius dominates the Bay of Naples. It is the only active volcano on the mainland of Europe.
The slopes were once covered with vineyards and woods and provided an innocent looking backdrop of the bustling town below. The coach will take you to within 1000 metres from the top of Vesuvius and from here you can walk to the very top and admire the splendid panoramic views across the bay (from the blackened crater rises a single plume of smoke, a reminder that the volcano is only sleeping for now?). Reminder: Comfortable, closed in shoes and your camera.

  • Caserta and cassino

    Caserta and cassino

Caserta is known as the "Versailles of Naples" because of the Royal Palace built by the Bourbon King (Charles III) in the 18th Century. The enchanting palace overlooking the huge square is one of the most sumptuous buildings in Italy. It has over 1,200 rooms and his full of chandeliers, richly gilded frescos, tapestries and history. In 1945 it was the headquarters of the Supreme Command of the Allied Force in the Mediterranean. The extraordinary gardens are 3 km long and their crowning glory is the great cascade, a 75 meters high waterfall which can be clearly seen from the palace. After the splendour of the Royal Palace, we’ll make our way to Monte Cassino to the famous Abbey, which was founded in 529 by St. Benedict of Norcia. During the Second World War the Abbey was completely destroyed and then faithfully restored to its former glory, with even the original frescoes and mosaics pieced together again. A truly memorable day out!

  • Salerno and Paestum

    Salerno and Paestum

About an hour's drive south of Naples there is Salerno, another important Italian Provincial town. In mediaeval times Salerno was the world’s capital of Medicine. The monastery of the Benedictine monks who probably founded its medical school, offered the best education then available. One of the most famous medical texts of that time was the "Regimen Sanitatis" written here in Latin and translated into almost every European language. In more modern times Salerno is best remembered for the Allied troops landing on its beaches, during the Second World War. To the east of Salerno, after Pontecagnano, Battipaglia and Eboli, there is Paestum which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Campania. Here you will see some of the best preserved Greek ruins, architecture and monuments, such as the Temple of Poseidon (Neptune), the Basilica dating from the 6th Century B.C.. In the museum you can admire the tomb of the diver, a magnificent example of Greek painting, representing a funeral banquet. On the tomb a young man diving into the water is depicted. Pay attention to the buffaloes that you will see grazing by the roadside during the drive!
